If anyone asked me what i wanted to be when i wanted to be when i was a kid was an answer like a pilot, or work in the circus. Slowly over the years i became a writer, an Interpol agent, SS agent, a NASA scientist, a singer, an artist,……sounds familar doesn’t it ?
And finally, here i am pursuing a medical field. To endure the endless hours of staying wide awake, crazy life full of adrenaline rush, the coffee drinking, late nights…these are the scenes running through my mind.
For all those in the other fields, m sure you all too had those long nights..endless tests, library days, night outs etc. Have you ever wondered but what keeps us all going ? Its the simple fact, that we all enjoy what we do. Taking the pleasure in doing the simple things like seeing patients, writing in patient notes, discussing the various diagnosis, running the investigations, trying a different angle of approach to the patient’s problems. Seeing the smile on a child’s face, the patients getting discharged and a successful post op patient…. brings back to my mind why i chose this field, to make that small difference in somebody’s life.
So each time you feel stressed out, look back and ask what got you here !!! And then look forward, after all it could have been worse.
For all the non medicos out there, although, m speaking from a different viewpoint, its the same point applicable for all the fields in which we all individually work in. Unless we enjoy what we do, there’s no amount of happiness we are going to get from our professional life. Well this is what i know, but i guess i could be wrong as well……
