Since midnight my phone has been incessantly beeping. ” You have a new message.” Ah and so it’s August 7th, World Friendship Day.
One of the most frequent question asked is, do we really need a separate day dedicated to our friends. I mean, they are kind of there for most of the days of your life. It’s not to easy to survive without them.
True, but for one day in a year, it feels good to have a special day dedicated to the whole bunch o’ us. And what better day is there, than the first Sunday of the month. When Joyce Hall, first started the tradition, cards was what sent across the post. Fast forward to present, it’s more than the cards. It is also a part of sharing some of the best times of the years. Add photos, videos, anecdotes to the treasure-trove of memories. Besides, across the miles, and midst the busy days, nothing feels as good as a day kept separate to meet up, even if it’s feasible only through the net.
And I strongly believe in the fact that, friends are never a coincidence in your life, they are strangers meant to come into your life to bring you priceless lessons and funny memories. To help you face the day. And when you fall, they are the ones who say, “Hey com’on hurry up, we’ve got to make it.”
So here it is, to the best of times, childhood days of practices, messing around on the courts, to the shopping, drives, exams of the high school years, to the goofing up during college days, then the university and med school days and finally during duty hours, hanging at the joints, the late night movie shows, the hikes, trekking…all and many more shall be a part of the memories. The moments may not come again, but the memories shall make it happen again.
And also to the friends, many whom I have not yet met for a long time, but we still keep in touch once a while.
To you my pen-pals, for the best of the days, especially the emails and letters. For hanging around, though of late, I have been irregular !!! Most of all, for staying on through the years as we went through the different phases of life.
And to all my blogger pals, for sharing the stories, the fun times and cutting the burden of my worst times. For your posts, your comments and likes and oh yes, the critiques !!! Though I have not met any o’ you, I still eagerly wait to hear the views from your side.
So here, at this early morning hour, miles away from many of you guys, thanks for giving me the memories and happy moments, thanks for the laughter and joy through the words, pictures and posts. And above all, thanks for being there, and one day we’ll all meet again.
Happy Friendship Day !!!
